Sharing Factors
Share 2FA factors with teammates or family. Share-to-invite is free for all users. Anonymous link sharing available on Supporter and Pro tiers.
FactorCat lets you share 2FA factors with other people — teammates, family members, or anyone who needs access to a shared account. There are two sharing methods depending on your needs and your plan.
Share-to-invite (free)
Share-to-invite lets you share a factor with someone by sending them a link. The recipient creates a free FactorCat account to accept the share.
- Open the factor you want to share in the FactorCat mobile app or web dashboard
- Tap Share > Invite someone
- FactorCat generates a unique invite link
- Send the link to the recipient (text, email, Slack — whatever you prefer)
- The recipient opens the link, creates an account (or signs in), and gains access to the shared factor
The recipient sees the shared factor in their dashboard alongside their own factors, with a visual indicator showing who shared it.
What the recipient gets
- Access to the shared factor’s TOTP codes
- The factor appears in their factor list with a badge showing the sharer
- If the factor is in a Locked Vault, the approval flow routes through the sharer’s phone — the recipient requests a code, the sharer approves
What you keep control of
- You can revoke access at any time from the factor’s sharing settings
- You remain the owner of the factor — sharing doesn’t transfer it
- You can see who has access to each factor you’ve shared
Share-to-invite is free for all users, on both Cloud Vault and Locked Vault factors.
Anonymous link sharing
Anonymous link sharing lets you share a live TOTP code with someone who doesn’t have FactorCat — no account required.
- Open the factor > Share > Create anonymous link
- Configure the link:
- Expiry — how long the link stays active
- Approval settings — whether each code request requires your approval
- Share the link with the recipient
- The recipient opens the link in any browser and sees the current TOTP code, updating live
The landing page is a branded FactorCat page with a “Get FactorCat free” CTA — every anonymous link is a subtle marketing touchpoint.
Tier differences
| Supporter | Pro | |
|---|---|---|
| Factors per link | 1 | Multiple |
| Link expiry | 7 days | Configurable |
| Approval required | Always | Follows vault settings |
- Supporter — anonymous link sharing for one factor at a time with 7-day expiry and mandatory approval on every code request
- Pro — multiple factors per link, configurable expiry, and approval follows your vault settings (so Cloud Vault factors with “never require” approval share without a push notification)
Anonymous link sharing is not available on the free tier. See Pricing for details.
How shared factors appear
On the web dashboard, shared factors appear in your factor list with:
- A sharing badge showing the sharer’s name or email
- Visual distinction from your own factors (different subtitle/indicator)
- Shared factors sort below your own factors for the same domain
Revoking access
You can revoke access to any shared factor at any time:
- Open the shared factor in the mobile app or web dashboard
- Go to Sharing settings
- Tap Revoke next to the person or link you want to remove
For share-to-invite: the recipient immediately loses access. For anonymous links: the link stops working immediately — existing browser sessions are terminated.
Anonymous links are hard-deleted on revoke or expiry. There’s no soft-delete or grace period.
For how sharing interacts with vault types, see Cloud Vault and Locked Vault. For pricing details, see Pricing.
